Per Axel Rydberg (1860-1931) was born in Sweden on July 6, 1860, and immigrated to the United States in 1882. He first worked in the iron mines in Michigan, and hoped he could become a mining engineer, but after an accident he was left with a limp and could not continue that work. From 1884-1890 he taught mathematics at the Luther Academy in Wahoo, Nebraska. In 1891, he received his Bachelor's degree from the University of Nebraska. Nelson (1859-1952), a noted botanist of the rocky mountain states, was a faculty member of the University of Wyoming from 1886-1942. Born in Iowa and attending schools in Missouri, he was hired as one of the first faculty members of the University of Wyoming.
